Much before Arijit Singh came to soothe our broken hearts with his songs, Sonu Nigam was the one who made our day with his melodious songs. Apart from singing, the singer is also talented in mimicry which made most of us go ROFL at an award function ranging from mimicking popular music directors to singing about Demonetization.

Here are some of his famous songs in Bollywood:

1. Yeh Dil Deewana: The most listened song of Sonu Nigam during his early days of his career. This song was from Shah Rukh Khan’s film Pardes which captured the intensity of the heartbreak and the side effects of it. We can very well feel the pain what SRK is undergoing during the song.

2. Sandese Aate Hai: A song which is a duet with the legendary singer Roop Kumar Rathod from the film Border is a silent tribute to the armed forces of our country. The song captured the pain of every soldier who is away from his family and it even showed the agony of their families as well.

3. Zindagi Maut Na Ban Jaye: Another collaboration with Roop Kumar Rathod for Aamir Khan’s film Sarfarosh is quite synonymous with what is happening in our country right now with serious issues of lynching, rapes, religious prejudices and corruption at high levels. You can still relate it to the current climate.

4. Tanhayee: One of the most acclaimed songs of Aamir Khan’s Dil Chahta Hai which was just beautiful in capturing the side effects of heartbreak. Along with Sonu’s voice, Ehsaan’s composition was a perfect blend to it.

5. Suraj Hua Maddham: The first ever song with the legendary Karan Johar for the movie Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham which was collaborated with Alka Yagnik and picturized on iconic SRK-Kajol at the Pyramids in Egypt. The song was a must-keep for every SRK fan in the world. The beautiful romance gave us a nostalgia towards Kuch Kuch Hota Hai during the song.

6. Saathiya: A perfect song for a romantic moment with your bae, the song from Saathiya is actually one of AR Rahman’s composition of his film Alaipayuthey which happens to be the original of Saathiya. The music video was completely colorful and you will instantly fall in love with the music.

7. Kal Ho Naa Ho: One of the most iconic songs from the film Kal Ho Naa Ho which is set at the backdrop of the Brooklyn Bridge, New York City. The song beautifully captures the activities of the characters ranging from Aman, Rohit and Naina ranging from their fun activities to serious work. The ball dance between Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta is the must watch in this song.

8. Main Hoon Na: The title song from the film Main Hoon Naa explored the concept of friendship during the good times and bad times. The song happened to be the first time collaboration with the melodicious Shreya Ghoshal. This one surely gave us friendship goals.

9. Do Pal: The song of separation on the Railway Station in the film Veer-Zaara, which was a collaboration with the legendary Lata Mangeshkar. The song strikes the right chords with the youth of today when you hear it, all thanks to the Late Madan Mohan who thought about this.

10. Sau Dard: My personal favourite song, from the film Jaan-e-Mann which captured the pain of the characters namely Suhaan and Agasthya who are in love with the same woman Piya. One regrets leaving her and wants to get back to her and the other tries hard to impress her but with no luck.

11. Jaane Nahi: The most emotional song from the film 3 idiots which explores the heart-wrenching pain which Rancho and Farhan undergo when their best friend attempts suicide and is battling for life in the hospital. You tend to feel the pain in Sonu’s voice.

12. Abhi Mujh Mein Kahin: The most heart-wrenching song from the film Agneepath which explored about resurrection and live with joy without worry about tomorrow. This one surely got us listening to it multiple times.
