Sanju Trailer Decode: Ranbir is back with his Rockstar days!

No doubt, the Sanju trailer is a winner and everyone’s waiting with bated breath for the film’s release on 29 June. Ranbir Kapoor is brilliant as ever, Rajkumar Hirani and Abhijat Joshi seem to be in top form and the film promises to be a helluva roller coaster ride.
Sanju or Ranbir?
“Good evening ladies and gentlemen, aaj meri liye bada khushi ka din hai, kyunki meri autobiography, meri aatmakatha, aap logo ke saamne aa rahi hai,” declares Sanjay Dutt as he walks in from the dark into the spotlight. Wait! Is that Sanju baba or is that Ranbir? The biggest win the trailer of Rajkumar Hirani’s Sanju notches is that it makes us forget we’re watching Ranbir Kapoor at any point. The voice, the swag and those droopy eyes - Ranbir gets it all bang on and as a viewer you are transported into Sanju baba’s aatmakatha without any hiccups.
Sanju Baba Slept with Over 308 Women !
In a section about Dutt’s girlfriends, the trailer reveals that Sanju baba has slept with over 308 women (minus sex workers). Well, as Ranbir Kapoor put it during the trailer launch... “Mere dus se bhi kum girlfriends thi, meri biopic nahi ban sakti”. Word! Imagine if Hirani had gone into each of Dutt’s relationships, he could have a never ending web series that can play out on Netflix.
Who Is Sonam Kapoor Playing In Sanju?
“Where is my bloody mangalsutra?!” yells a distraught Sonam Kapoor who obviously plays Dutt’s wife in the film. So is Sonam playing Richa Sharma or Rhea Pillai? While Dia Mirza is stepping into Maanayata Dutt’s shoes, Sonam apparently does not represent any specific woman in Sanju’s life (presumably to avoid any real life heartburns). “Sonam is not playing anyone in particular as we haven’t delved into that aspect of Sanju’s life,” revealed Hirani. So that’s that.
Apart from that, talking about Sonam, this is how people reacted seeing the trailer!

We see a hand blacking out a question mark and declaring that Sanjay Dutt is “NOT” finished. That’s presumably Sunil Dutt (played by Paresh Rawal) vehemently declaring that his son’s career is not over despite being charged and arrested under TADA back in the 90s. Dutt senior was right, Sanjay Dutt went on to give his biggest hits ever with the Munnabhai films in 2003 and 2006.
What Sanju’s trailer also declares is that despite Besharam, Roy, Bombay Velvet and Jagga Jasoos - Ranbir Kapoor is definitely not finished either. This Kapoor is just too talented to be written off any time soon.
“My Name Is Sanju and I am Not a Terrorist”
“Main bevda hoon, tharki hoon, drug addict hoon... sab hoon...” says Dutt as we see flashes of his life rush past us at 24 frames per second. “Lekin terrorist nahin hoon,” he declares in the end, giving us an idea as to why Dutt allowed Hirani and team to come out with the actor’s story at all. Yes, Dutt had seen it all, having lived a life on the edge, but he still wanted to declare to the world - “My name is Sanju, and I am not a terrorist”. And what better way get that message across to the masses than with a Rajkumar Hirani film?
Mystery behind Anushka Sharma's character in the film!
After watching the trailer it's unclear what is Anushka Sharma playing in the film. On Wednesday, the entire cast and crew of the film were present at the trailer launch. Though the audiences missed Anushka Sharma’s presence at the launch, Hirani was quizzed about her character.
And he had an interesting revelation to make. Rajkumar Hirani said, "Anushka Sharma actually jo role kar rahi hai Woh actually, main aur Abhijat Hain. She is playing us, not a filmmaker but a biographer."
So does that mean while being true to Sanjay Dutt's life, Sanju will also have fictional characters in the film?
OKAY HERE ARE QUICK DETAILS THAT YOU MIGHT HAVE MISSED WHILE WATCHING THE TRAILER!
1) Notice the golden bracelet. It is Sanjay’s favourite accessory and it can be spotted throughout the trailer.
2) When you have moved on from seeing Ranbir Kapoor stark naked, please notice the tattoos on his body. On his chest, you can find “Sunil” inked, which is Sanjay Dutt’s father’s name, of course. Such attention to detailing.
3) The most dramatic scene in the trailer is Sanju saving himself from overflowing sewage water in his jail cell. Look closely and you can see Sanju saving a Ganesha idol in his hands.
4) Here you can see Sanju carrying his most prized possession with him – a picture of him with his dad.
5) Please tell me you did not miss out on the awesome Arshad Warsi cameo! Although on looking closely, it can be seen that Ranbir has been photoshopped in place of Sanjay Dutt in the song, the tiny clip sure brings back memories.
6) The director resembles Rajkumar Hirani himself so much.
