Movies are indeed emotional joyrides and for them to work audience needs to empathize with it. Building empathy every time from scratch in a short duration of 2-3 hours is way difficult and hence begins the game of images/Public image. So, we often see actors do similar kind of roles in movies after movies. In Commercial movies, the business revolves mostly around the image of Lead Actor. Sometimes the reel image overshadows the real image of the Actor and makes him/her a larger than life character and when this can be redone again with a devised mechanism, then its called a formula. one such formula is the "Righteous Rich Sacrificing wealth for the Downtrodden". Numerous actors have attempted this formula but none fitted into like Rajnikanth and it was redone till the last one not working at the box office, i.e. Lingaa (2014).

The modern incarnation of the above formula can be seen in the recent two Mahesh Babu Hits 'Srimanthudu' and 'Maharshi', both with the same premise but the motives and solutions change. even the Bharath Ane Nenu had the same traits of a "righteous rich" but it dealt with political aspects more. Indeed these versions have modern flares but the gist is the same as it was, a saviour is born not made.

Indeed, Building an image isn't wrong until the content isn't compromised to let the image run the show. But more often it becomes the case that formula is trusted more than new and till the bubble of image breaks it's too late. In Today's times, the stakes around a movie are very high and slightest opportunity to avoid risk is taken and hence formulas are still  blindly trusted.
