Shivaji Surathkal 2 Movie Review: The film opens a few years after Shivaji Surathkal’s (Ramesh Aravind) Ranagiri Rahasya adventure. He is now on a break and is busy taking care of his daughter, Siri Surathkal (Aaraadhya). However, Shivaji’s name features in the murder of a woman in coastal Karnataka and, thus, he is asked to report to duty on priority. During investigations, Shivaji immediately recognizes it as the handiwork of a serial killer but fails to connect the dots for a pattern. The case becomes complex just when Shivaji is about to solve it. But when he finally cracks the case, it might be a little too late.
Ramesh Aravind, with his charm, wit, and signature Shivaji mannerisms, holds the film together. Shivaji has his own problems but is still one of the most sought-after officers who can eke out the minutest clues even in a dense forest. He still holds a stellar record of solving complex cases.
Shivaji Surathkal 2 is a one-man show as expected, and Ramesh has shouldered it with utmost responsibility. The actor is ably supported by his sidekick, Raghu Ramanakoppa, and actors Radhika Narayan, Meghana Gaonkar, Nassar, and little Aaraadhya. Vinayak Joshi and Sangeetha Sringeri have interesting cameos. The film gets the guessing game right by letting the audience carry out its own mental investigations till the last minute.
A whodunit usually follows a set pattern, but 'Shivaji Surathkal 2' is a blend of murder mystery with an emotional twist. While there is a very interesting serial-killer-on-the-loose bit, simultaneously, it also takes an emotional detour, thus wandering a bit from the main plot. The twists and turns work but do not leave you stunned. The movie lacks the tight screenplay the first film of the franchise offered.
Judah Sandy’s music is apt and the mystery theme lingers on even after walking out of the theatres. The writing is convincing in most parts. Director Akash Srivatsa has done a good job.
One can go to the theatres to watch Shivaji’s wit and intelligence and the way he solves another interesting mystery case, at his own pace.
