Why Kannada mainstream cinema is obsessed with the remake? Why can't they make an original film? At least they should follow the path of KGF which brought Kannada cinema to the national map.
These questions came to my mind when I watched Odeya which is the remake of Tamil movie Veeram starring Ajith.
The film is the typical mass entertainer, while loads of action, comedy, romance, and melodrama. One ends up wondering though, whether the story is being brought alive on Kannada screens a few years too late because it's a tried and tested formula and the makers should realize that we are entering a new decade and we are still stuck with old formula movie storytelling.
Gajendra (Darshan) is a man of few words. His first instinct always is to reach out to those in distress and protect his well-wishers. He believes in giving people a taste of their own medicine and nobody dares mess with him. But enters the love of his life, Sakku who swears by peaceful means to resolve any conflict. and How Darshan fights back for his love is the rest of the story.
There is nothing fresh in the treatment in the story. The only watchable thing is Darshan's mass appeal, his comic timing, and dialogue delivery.
At a time when most superstars are being seen in dramas that go beyond the usual commercial potboilers in other industries, this one seems a tad outdated. Albeit, knowing Darshan and his fan base, the story does have the content that fans need for a three-hour whistle fest at the cinema halls.
This film is a complete Darshan which will crowd please his fans other than that it is the same old commercial film which doesn't have anything new to offer.
