NTR Kathanayakudu is a biopic of Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao who was born in May 2023. The film is directed by Krish and has Nandamuri Balakrishna and Vidya Balan playing the lead roles.
The movie has been made into two parts to explain his life story based on his work.
NTR Kathanayakudu is about his early days from his birth to how he entered the movie industry and his work in it.
The second part which is NTR Mahanayakudu is about his political journey.
Let’s come to the first part. The movie begins in Chennai where Basavatarakam played by Vidya Balan, wife of NTR is under treatment.
In the backdrop, the story begins with NTR working as a registrar in 1947 in Vijayawada. He quits his job and decides to be an actor and moves to Madras. Thus, struggle and accomplishments in the movie industry make the story.
The movie in the first half revolves around the characters he played in the movies. Nandamuri Balakrishna feels not in sync with the age he plays. Vidya Balan looks good in her acts and gives full justice to the role being the best in what she does.

Songs take you to yesteryear and make you feel good about it. Color combination used by the cinematographer makes it apt for the situation, as the movie revolves in an era of black and white to Eastman and then to color movies. So, the transition feels apt. Music is the main highlight and is reasonably well edited to suit the need of the current generation.
The second half is about the transformation of NTR from an actor to the man of the people. Some incidents like aging NTR acting and dancing with younger generation actresses get him into a lot of criticism.
The character he plays on screen makes him realize he wants to work for the society. Thus, he begins his political journey which he announces at the end keeping the movie open for the second part.
The overall storyline is good, and direction is excellent, but you feel the movie to be bit draggy and repetitive at times and the length could have been cut by at least 10 to 15 mins. Dialogues sometimes feel out of place which could have been omitted with proper editing.
Overall Verdict: Go watch this movie to see the struggles of an actor/politician from where he was to what he will achieve. We sincerely feel that the team could have wrapped the story in one film to make it more impressive to the audience. It is a one-time watch.
