Romantic films are not a new genre for Bollywood movies, it is a done and tested genre and instrumental to launch a bunch of new debutants. And Malaal is exactly made for it.
The movie is set in 1998, and the premise of the film is based on the movies made in that era. A tapori hero and a girl-next-door heroine who are polls apart after some Takraar(feud) they fall in Pyaar (Love).

The film is predictable but still, the fresh cast makes it endearing to watch. Meezaan definitely has done a promising debut. He has all the heroic quality and has a screen presence, and he is good with his dialogue-delivery which is laced with the Marathi accent.
Sharmin has also done a commendable job though she lacks expressions in a few emotional scenes. The chemistry between the two actors is the main USP of the film. Director Mangesh Hadawale beautifully captures the chawl and Mumbai of the '90s.

The film lacks a bit in the second half but picks up the pace until it reaches the climax.
