Review: In "Kushi" Vijay Deverakonda and Samantha Ruth Prabhu are in the lead roles. The film is a love story set in the backdrop of Kashmir and involves a romantic relationship between two individuals from opposing backgrounds, with their families being at odds with each other.
Viplav (Vijay Deverakonda) is a BSNL employee who requests a posting to Kashmir because he has a Mani Ratnam fantasy to live out. He wants the snow-capped mountains, the beautiful locales, the AR Rahman music, heady romance, etc. Unfortunately, he gets a massive dose of reality once he gets there. Aradhya (Samantha Ruth Prabhu) crosses paths with him one fine day, and our man here falls head-over-heels for the pretty girl.
The film begins well with Viplav’s decision to choose Kashmir for his job location. Vennela Kishore’s character adds some fun to the proceedings. The first two songs are picturised well and add to the romantic mood. The film takes an exciting turn with Samantha’s identity getting revealed and the possibility of a clash between tradition and modernity, and faith and reason coming up.
The clash is soon set aside for the world of the newlyweds. It works for the most part. Vijay Deverakonda and Samantha Ruth Prabhu look great together and set new goals for on-screen romance. But as the paradise is disturbed by societal expectations in the form of motherhood, etc., the film slowly turns routine and loses focus. After the couple’s separation, the story entirely runs from Vijay’s perspective. Samantha almost disappears from the story, and we search for her scene after scene.
The central theme of the film revolves around the idea that love can overcome societal and familial differences, although it might not delve deeply enough into certain aspects of the character's emotions and experiences.
Though the film has some predictable elements, it remains entertaining and delivers a message of the triumph of love.
