One of Telugu cinema's most ambitious pan-Indian projects, Kannappa, helmed by Vishnu Manchu, is gearing up to captivate audiences with its mythological grandeur. Directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh and produced under the 24 Frames Factory banner by veteran actor Mohan Babu, the much-awaited film will now release on April 25, 2025.

Based on the story of Bhakta Kannappa, a devoted follower of Lord Shiva, the film will see Vishnu Manchu in the titular role. It narrates the tale of Kannappa, one of the 63 nayanmars, whose ultimate act of devotion led to divine recognition and liberation (mukti).

The ensemble cast includes Mohan Babu as Mahadeva Shastri, Sarath Kumar as Nathanathudu, and Madhoo as Pannaga. Adding to its pan-Indian appeal are stellar cameo performances by Mohanlal, Akshay Kumar, Prabhas, and Kajal Aggarwal. Akshay Kumar will portray Lord Shiva, while Kajal Aggarwal takes on the role of Goddess Parvathi. Prabhas and Mohanlal’s special appearances further elevate the film's scale.

The release date announcement poster features symbolic imagery of a trident and damru against a mountainous backdrop, with the tagline: “The untold story of Lord Shiva’s greatest devotee.” The film promises to delve into the tale of Kannappa’s unwavering faith, culminating in his readiness to sacrifice his eyes for the Shiva lingam, only to be stopped by Lord Shiva, who granted him eternal salvation.

A Timeless Tale Retold

The story of Kannappa has been immortalized in Indian cinema multiple times, including Kannappa Nayanar (1938, Tamil), Bedara Kannappa (1954, Kannada), and Bhakta Kannappa (1976, Telugu). Iconic actors such as Dr. Rajkumar, Krishnam Raju, Shivarajkumar, and Puneeth Rajkumar have portrayed the revered character in the past.

Pan-Indian Appeal

The latest iteration of Kannappa, starring Vishnu Manchu, will be released in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi, aiming to resonate with audiences across the country.

With its stellar cast, mythological depth, and grand vision, Kannappa is poised to be a cinematic spectacle that celebrates devotion, faith, and cultural heritage.
