Lokesh Kanagaraj's Thalaivar 171 Gets Intriguing Title: Coolie

Lokesh Kanagaraj, known for crafting cinematic universes with films like Vikram, Kaithi, and Leo, had earlier clarified that Thalaivar 171 would not be part of his interconnected universe. Instead, the Rajinikanth-starrer, now titled Coolie, will mark Lokesh’s second standalone project after Maanagaram.

The teaser for Coolie has already garnered massive attention, with Lokesh paying homage to Rajinikanth’s illustrious career. The title itself harks back to the actor’s iconic roles as a coolie in films like Uzhaipaali (1993), Mannan (1992), and Mullum Malarum (1978). One notable easter egg in the teaser is Rajinikanth singing the song Siva Sambo from his 1979 film Ninaithale Inikkum, which he starred in alongside Kamal Haasan. The song, with lyrics celebrating a hedonistic lifestyle, adds layers to the teaser, evoking nostalgia while offering a glimpse into Coolie’s tone.
