Kamal Haassan Back as ‘Senapathi’ in Indian 2

The shooting for Indian 2 has begun and has become one of the most awaited movies of the year. Directed by S Shankar, the movie is of action thriller genre and is a sequel to the pan-Indian blockbuster titled Indian(1996)starring Kamal Hassan. The movie is said to have a very interesting cast and the cinema industry is on its toes to see Nammavar back on the silver screens.

The movie is about an ex-freedom fighter Senapathi (Kamal Hsassan) turned vigilante who fights corruption in the country. Part 1 of the movie ends with Senapathi killing his own son and fleeing the country and part 2 picks up the story from there. He comes back to the country to aid a young man who exposes corrupt politicians of the country through videos on the internet.

Speaking of “interesting cast” that was mentioned before, Indian 2 is also starring Kajal Aggarwal and Meyaadha Maan star, Priya Bhavani Shankar playing pivotal characters. Actors like Priyanka Chopra and Hollywood actor Michael Fassbender are also expected to be seen in the movie as supporting roles. The making of the movie was delayed due to multiple reasons. “We had so many things coming in between, apart from the fact that it’s a very big film. We had COVID, we had an accident on set where people died. It’s so unnerving but we continued. Indian 2 will happen. We are all working on it, we are all talking to Lyca Production. They are also keen to shoot, so now it’s just a question of getting everything together on the logistic front” said Kamal Haassan.

Indian 2 has music by Anirudh Ravichander and has writers Jayamohan, Kabilan Vairamuthu and Lakshmi Saravana Kumar. Shankar said “A lot of things happened around us in these years, and all that will be discussed in the sequel. Though I have done many films, Indian 2 will be close to my heart. After finishing every film, I used to think about developing a sequel to Indian, but finally, it materialised this year. The script has come out very well.” The movie’s release date is not official but as of now the tentative time of its release has been said to be October, 2023.
