Most cop thriller movies are packed with OTT action and savage punchlines, but there is a handful which uses the elements of the social message and commercial formula. This is shown in Adanga Maaru which stars Jayam Ravi in the lead.

The film revolves around Subash (Jayam Ravi) who is an honest sub-inspector in the police force and has dreams of becoming an IPS officer. His life revolves around his loving family and girlfriend Anitha (Raashi Khanna) who care for him throughout. One day, he is investigating the mysterious death of a young girl from a middle-class family which was covered up in a hush-hush by the senior officer by labelling it as a suicide. 

Even though he is close to finding the culprits, the culprits are released from the custody, courtesy of his senior officer who is on their payroll. Because of that, he has been suspended from the department. After heading home, he is shocked to see that his family has been murdered under gruesome circumstances and then begins his quest for revenge against the culprits and the cruel society.

The plot seems to be tried and tested in some places but giving focus to issues like abuse of power, violence against women and police corruption is given good focus. Kudos to the writer who could've thought of an interesting subject like this. The best part about the film is the level of action which is the core portion of the movie.

The debutant director Kartik Thangavel has utilized the story properly as a fresher and the theme of the regression of our society is also projected well.

Composer Sam CS's composition plays a very important role in making sure that every scene deserves a punch.

The romantic elements between Jayam Ravi and Raashi Khanna seem very uninteresting and useless which keeps the film's pace very slow.

Apart from that, Jayam gives a good show in portraying the role of a cop in this flick and he has worked really hard in keeping up in the emotional scenes.

Overall, the film is just perfect for a weekend and the best part about it is the story which keeps you guessing with its twist and turns.
