On Friday, Tamil actor Thalapathy Vijay declared the establishment of his political party, 'Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam,' expressing a commitment to usher in "fundamental political change" through an administration characterized by transparency, caste-free principles, and a lack of corruption.

The significant announcement followed approval from Vijay's fan club, Vijay Makkal Iyakkam, granted during a meeting held in Chennai last week.

In a statement, the actor conveyed, "Today, we are submitting an application to the EC to register our party 'Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam.' Our aim is to contest and triumph in the upcoming 2026 assembly elections, bringing about the transformative political change people desire."

Emphasizing his serious intent towards politics, Vijay stated, "Politics is not just another career for me; it is a sacred people's work. I have been preparing myself for it for a long time. Politics is not a hobby but my deepest desire, and I want to fully immerse myself in it."

The statement further elucidated Vijay's political endeavor, addressing prevailing issues such as administrative malpractices and a divisive political culture based on caste and religion. It highlighted the collective yearning in Tamil Nadu for a political transformation marked by selflessness, transparency, absence of caste bias, vision, and efficiency.

Upon receiving approval from the Election Commission, the party intends to organize public gatherings to present its policies, principles, and action plans, along with introducing a flag and party symbol.

However, Vijay clarified that the party will not participate in the 2024 general elections and will refrain from supporting any party in the upcoming elections.
