‘Jai Bhim’ bags three big awards at the 9th Noida International Film Festival

'Jai Bhim’ has won three main awards at the 9th Noida International Film Festival. The announcement was made on January 24. The movie won the awards of Best Film, Best Actor – Suriya, and Best Actress – Lijomol Jose.
Earlier, ‘Jai Bhim’ was featured on the official YouTube channel of Oscar Awards and it was shortlisted as one of the eligible films for the 94th Academy Awards. Earlier, the movie was also nominated for the Golden Globe Awards 2022 for the Best Non-English Language Film.
The movie was directed by TJ Gnanavel and the movie had Suriya, Lijomol Jose and Manikandan in the lead roles. Lijomol Jose plays the role of Sengani, whose husband Raja Kannu (portrayed by Manikandan) gets arrested by the police for a crime that he has not committed. Sengani and Raja Kannu belong to the Irular tribe and the movie portrays the injustice happening to the tribal people because of caste politics.
Sengani who is pregnant and with the help of a lawyer Chandru (portrayed by Suriya) tries to find out the truth about her husband who goes missing while under police custody. It is later found out that Raja Kannu has been harassed by the police and dies while in custody but the police states that he ran away from the police station and went missing. Later, the movie shows how the lawyer tries to fight injustice against the tribal people to get them their basic living rights.
