The Malayalam film RDX is once again making headlines as its producers are seeking compensation from director Nahas Hidayath, alleging a breach of contract.
According to Manorama News, the dispute centers on an agreement that Nahas, who directed the successful film, would direct a second film for the same production company. He was paid 15 lakh rupees for directing RDX, and the contract included a clause requiring him to direct another film for which he had already received an advance.
Despite multiple requests from the producers, Nahas announced his withdrawal from the second film. Consequently, the producers have initiated legal action, demanding 50 lakh rupees in compensation plus the return of the advance, amounting to over one crore rupees with 18% interest. The Ernakulam Sub Court has summoned Nahas to appear on August 6, although he claims he has not received the summons.
This legal battle occurs amid accusations of financial mismanagement against the RDX producers. Anjana Abraham, from Tripunithura, has accused producers Sophia Paul and James Paul of not distributing promised profit margins to stakeholders. Anjana, who invested 6 crore rupees, expected a full return along with 30% of the total profit. Despite the film's success, she claims she only received her initial investment and was not informed about the revenue from the film’s satellite rights.
