Paappan Movie Review : A good suspense thriller with some high voltage melodrama and many twists

Review: ASP Vincy Abraham (Neeta Pillai) is put in charge of the investigation into the murder of superstar Ravi Vamrman’s (Rahul Madhav) driver Rajan (Sreejith Ravi). The murder is followed quickly by another in the same manner of SI Soman (Tini Tom). Vincy zeroes in on Chacko (Shammy Thilakan), as the modus operandi is similar to his.

In the meantime, DSP (Vijayaraghavan) brings in, as an adviser, ex-cop Abraham Mathew Mathan, aka Pappan (Suresh Gopi) and Vincy’s father, who had arrested Chacko earlier. Though both Pappan and Vincy didn’t get along because of a bitter past event, they agree to work together. The investigations takes many twists and turns and how they nab the murderer makes up the rest of the story.

Joshiy’s staples of revenge and murder investigation, knitted with family, emotions, and melodrama are in place in Paappan too. Suresh Gopi’s comeback as a super cop is another highlight of the movie, though he’s hardly seen in his uniform except in flashbacks.

Neeta Pillai excels in her performance, bringing in the body language and appearance of a cop, while also playing the emotional side of the estranged daughter of a policeman. Gokul Suresh as Paappan’s son was overshadowed by his real-life father’s presence. On the other hand, Suresh Gopi looks stunning in many scenes. Nyla Usha as his wife has done her role quite nicely. The rest of the cast - Asha Sharath as a doctor, Tini Tom as SI Soman, Nandu as SI Raghavan, Sreejith Ravi as driver Rajan and Kaniha - have done justice to their roles.

Joshiy has maintained the suspense of the investigation till the last frame, filling the story with several twists. Considering it is an investigative thriller, the cinematography by Ajay David Kachappilly is nice, with beautiful shots of Pathanamthitta and the Pulimala area.

The first half of the movie feels fast-paced, with suspense and breathtaking scenes, but the second half moves at a snail's pace.Paappan is a good suspense thriller movie with some high voltage melodrama and many twists.
