P Jayachandran, a legendary Malayalam playback singer, recorded over 16,000 songs across various languages. He collaborated with top composers like G Devarajan, MS Baburaj, Ilaiyaraaja, AR Rahman, and MM Keeravani. His contributions left a lasting impact on the Indian music industry.He earned the National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer in 1986. He was honored with the Kerala State Film Award five times and received the J. C. Daniel Award in 2020 for his contributions to Malayalam cinema. Additionally, he won two Tamil Nadu State Film Awards.
P Jayachandran was born on March 3, 1944, in Ravipuram, Kochi. He was the third of five children of Ravivarma Kochaniyan Thampuran, a member of the Cochin royal family and a musician, and Paliyath Subhadrakkunjamma. His background greatly influenced his musical career, leading him to become one of Malayalam cinema's most celebrated playback singers.
