Review: 'Dhoomam', focuses on the cigarette business and its negative effects, but it is outdated in terms of its subject matter and storytelling. It is commendable to deliver a message while entertaining the audience, but there are more pressing issues in society that could have been addressed, such as environmental hazards, communalism, or drug-related problems. Smoking does not seem to be the burning issue it once was.
The film features Fahadh Faasil in the role of Avinash, a persuasive marketing executive who successfully runs campaigns for a cigarette company led by Sid, played by Roshan Mathew. The story quickly takes a thrilling turn when Avinash and his wife, played by Aparna Balamurali, find themselves in a life-threatening situation after a night of driving. As Avinash plans to quit his job, they are attacked in their car and wake up in a deserted hillside the next morning. Avinash must comply with the demands of their hijacker and gather ransom money within 24 hours to ensure their safety.
The narrative unfolds through flashbacks, revealing that Avinash wanted to quit his job because the company's leaders, including Sid's uncle portrayed by Vineeth, prioritize profits over the health effects of cigarettes. They aim to expand their market by targeting the youth, which ultimately leads Avinash and his wife into their dangerous predicament.
The script of 'Dhoomam',It is quite disappointing as it is lengthy and reminiscent of films from the 90s. They also note that the actors were not able to elevate the material, despite the collaboration between Pawan Kumar, a highly acclaimed Kannada writer-director, and Fahadh Faasil, one of Malayalam cinema's top talents.
