Music composer-director Ravi Basrur, known for his unique style, is set to bring the traditional folk art of Yakshagana to the mainstream with his upcoming directorial project Veera Chandrahasa.

Inspired by his childhood experiences in Coastal Karnataka, where Yakshagana was the primary form of entertainment, Basrur has spent over a decade planning this film, blending historical storytelling with the Yakshagana performance format.

Veera Chandrahasa is not just a film; it's an attempt to showcase the rich cultural heritage of Yakshagana to a wider audience. The movie was shot entirely in the Yakshagana style, incorporating the vibrant energy of the folk form. To ensure authenticity, Basrur spent 2-3 years researching the story of Veera Chandrahasa, weaving an inspirational narrative that aligns with the Yakshagana tradition. A unique challenge in the filming process was the lack of retakes, as Yakshagana performers are used to delivering full-length performances with consistent energy, crucial to the art form.

Ravi Basrur is not focused on commercial success but rather on sharing Karnataka’s cultural legacy with the world. His passion for showcasing Yakshagana stems from his desire to preserve and pass on this centuries-old tradition to future generations. The film features 500 Yakshagana artists, all shot under the natural glow of oil torches, which adds a vibrant, authentic touch to the visuals.

With Veera Chandrahasa, Basrur hopes to introduce this powerful and visually stunning art form to those unfamiliar with it, fulfilling a long-held dream.
