Kavacha is the story of A blind man (played by Shivrajkumar), who bonds with a young girl, and would go to great lengths to protect her from a serial killer. Kavacha is in fact inspired from the Malayalam blockbuster Oppam, which was directed by ace director Priyadarshan. Speaking about Kavacha in an interview, its director GVR Vasu told,
Ours is not a copy of the original. Also, Shiva Rajkumar does not prefer remakes and accepted the film only after the script was redrafted. This action-thriller has new elements, which is what Shivanna’s fans look forward to.
Sources say that director Vasu has included new twists in the tale which will be different from Mohanlal’s Oppam.
The Malayalam movie Oppam had Mohanlal in the lead with Samuthirakani, Anusree, Nedumudi Venu, Vimala Raman etc alongside. The movie was based on a story by Govind Vijayan and was directed by Priyadarshan. The film was a big hit and had won several prestigious awards.
