The only incident which shook everyone was the infamous abduction of Dr. Rajkumar has been reopened after 18 years of the incident and the culprits have been acquitted by the local court.
The case of the abduction of Dr.Rajkumar was reopened at a local court in Tamil Nadu where the judge had passed the verdict stating that the culprits have been acquitted because of lack of evidence.
The judge criticized the family for not filing the complaint right after the crime took place in their home and the prosecution had failed to provide the substantial evidence which was stating the proof that the 9 men who were convicted for abduction have links with Veerappan.
The crime came to light in the year 2000, when Dr. Rajkumar was in Gajanur, Tamil Nadu for the inauguration of his farmhouse and late at night while having dinner. Veerappan and his bandits barged inside his house and abducted him right in front of his family. This actually began the tension between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu due to the abduction and the drama of abduction went on for three months until the government managed to give 108 million rupees as a ransom to the bandit. One of the task force officers had sensed the threat of abduction of the Kannada icon and decided to inform Rajkumar and his family, which he treated it as a joke.
Four years later, Veerappan was killed in a gruesome encounter by the police and the military and Dr. Rajkumar breathed his last two years later which brought grief in the entire city of Bangalore.
