Noted Kannada film director Guru Prasad was found dead in his Bengaluru apartment on Sunday morning at the age of 52, with police suspecting he may have died by suicide two or three days earlier.
His body was discovered after neighbors reported a foul odor emanating from his flat in the Madanayakanahalli area, where he had been living for the past eight months. Sources indicate that financial strain following the poor performance of his latest film, Ranganayaka, may have contributed to his reported struggles with depression and mounting debts.
Guru Prasad was known for his satirical filmmaking and socially relevant themes, with notable works including Mata (2006) and Eddelu Manjunatha (2009), which received critical acclaim and recognition, including the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Screenplay. His other films, such as Director’s Special (2013) and Eradane Sala (2017), showcased his versatility and critique of various societal issues, solidifying his place in the Kannada film industry. Recently remarried after a divorce from his first wife, his passing has left a significant void in the film community.
