Review: Nodi Swamy Ivanu Irode Heege marks the debut of filmmaker Islahuddin NS. The filmmaker has chosen an unconventional subject for his debut, a dark comedy that centres around a depressed individual who has failed to move on from his break-up. The quirks and edgy subject make this film watchable, especially in the second half of the film that involves a comedy of errors.
The story begins with a dream sequence of Sai breaking up with his 'Baby Doll' and then goes on to show how she is still on his mind, with constant hallucination-like sequences. Then Sai uses a website that's titled yamamaama.com to register himself to be killed and then two unexpected characters turn up to help him there. There are two interesting comical subplots that further add to the confusion in the narrative.
The title pays homage to one of maverick filmmaker Shankar Nag's cult film and it does make for an interesting watch. The comedy of errors is filled with fun dialogues and some good performances. Rishi leads the pack with a convincing portrayal of Sai. Dhanya Balakrishna is a treat to watch. The rest of the comic ensemble is also aptly cast. The background score deserves a special mention.
Nodi Swamy Ivanu Irode Heege can make for a good weekend watch for those who like out-of-the-box narratives.
