Review: Lucky Man happens to be a posthumous release of Puneeth Rajkumar, in which he essays the role of God. Also, it is the official remake of Oh My Kadavule, a hit Tamil film. It also marks the directorial debut of S Nagendra Prasad, brother of Prabhudeva. Additionally, there is a special song that has Puneeth Rajkumar and Prabhudeva matching steps.
Ideally, most films end with the marriage of lovers, but the story of Lucky Man begins on this note and one gets to know how it wasn't a happily ever after for the couple and they are seeking a divorce. The film begins with the introduction of three friends, Arjun, Anu, and Shetty. Anu proposes love and marriage to Arjun, who accepts them as they are best friends. Arjun, who blames God for all that he has been through, happens to meet God. What happens then forms the rest of the story.
The film remains a faithful remake of the Tamil original. Though, one must commend the makers for adding a little bit of local touch to this with the dialogues and some scenes. The way the character of God has been adapted to suit Puneeth's image is one of the biggest wins for the film. The scenes, right from the entry to the swan song, quite literally, where he shakes a leg with Prabhudeva, are a treat for his fans and followers. Every single one of them is tailor-made to generate whistles and leaves fans satisfied seeing Puneeth in this manner.
The film is beautifully shot and has some good performances. The cast for all characters is spot on. Be it Rangayana Raghu as the emotional single father, or Sundar Raj and Sudha Belawadi as the concerned parents of the protagonist, to Nagabhushana as the always reliable best friend - everyone delivers what is expected of them.
Nagendra Prasad makes a good debut as a filmmaker, ensuring he has adapted a script well with the right amount of local touch to it.
