Filmmaker Hari Santhosh says that ByTwo Love is his attempt at understanding the value of relationships and commitment in today's age for Gen-Now. The film has some interesting nuances of the frailties and complexities of the current generation, who prefer being detached and baggage free. Though, the filmmaker does give in to conventional thoughts, both in the filmmaking style and the message.
ByTwo Love begins with the introduction of Balu and Leela – two strong-minded individuals, who have different problems at their respective homes and head to Bengaluru in search of freedom and a better life. They end up as colleagues in a matrimony website, ironically, when they get to know both of them are looking for the same things in life. They go from being friends to more and eventually decide to move in with a child as live-in partners. Will they survive this ordeal without societal norms and definitions creeping in on them?
The film has an interesting story and some fun moments between the lead pair, especially in the scenes where we get to see one upmanship games and fights. There is some amount of detachment from logic required, especially during the second half, to enjoy the scenes. The film might have set out to talk about love in today's age, but it ends up being a tad too preachy towards the end, which could have been avoided. The climax has some intense moments.
Sreeleela steals the show with a role that offers her to be more than just eye candy in a film. She shines especially in the emotional scenes. Dhanveerrah also holds his own in a subtle performance and one wishes to see more of this from him, rather than going the conventional massy way. The film has a big ensemble cast of many talented actors and all of them play their parts well. The film looks good visually and has some fun dialogues that can have one in splits. The music is non-intrusive. If you are not expecting very high standard 'ByTwo Love' makes for a decent one-time watch.
