The actor has been famous for his immense portrayal in every movie we see and the best part about him is that despite all the fame and money. He still leads a common man's life.
The actor started out in the mid-60s in the theatre industry where he was a part of the Marathi theatre company, he had been associated with the big personalities of the theatre company in Mumbai. He was part of various acts along with veterans like Girish Karnad.
During his stint in theatre, he was offered two films in two consecutive languages namely Sankalpa in Kannada and Ankur in Hindi. He has done a lot of Hindi films with the acclaimed director Shyam Benegal. Despite acting in most of the mainstream films in Kannada, he was also featured in films of different languages.
In the mid-80s he was popular in the Doordarshan's most cult show Malgudi Days which was directed by his brother Shankar Nag. He appeared in various characters in different serials. The show was popular among the youngsters back in those days.
The actor has been a part of politics during his days and he has been hugely involved in the reformist movement. He had contested in the general elections in the year 1994 and won for Malleswaram constituency. He served as the minister for BDA because of the victory. He had again contested in the year 2004 against the then-Cheif Minister of Karnataka SM Krishna and lost in that year.
His last film Sarkari Hi Pra Shaale Kasargodu has been faring really well in the box office and receiving critical acclaim from the critics.
