Ramesh Aravind has a trademark style of filmmaking, where stories are experimental and varied. 100 deals with extortion, blackmail and cybercrime, but the contents have been dealt with in a manner that makes it suitable for a family film outing.
The film is about an honest people officer, Vishnu, and his family that comprises four women - his mother, wife, sister and daughter. When two ladies in the household end up having a tryst with a psychopath who lurks online and Vishnu chances upon this, there is turbulence in the lives of the members of the family. What follows thereafter is a crisp thriller.
What works for 100 is the way the story has been narrated sans any frills. In under two hours, the film makes the story a breezy watch. The second half of the film sees the pace pick up, an added bonus for any thriller. The songs in the film are good, but nothing lingers on, which could have helped the makers. The story is an adaptation of Thiruttu Payale 2, which has been tweaked a lot to suit Ramesh's loyal audiences. Most of this work, but one wonders if there could have been a little more substantial back story for the antagonist, which seems to be missing from the original.
Ramesh is in top form as the protagonist and excels in his performance, as always. Purnaa makes a delightful comeback. Rachita Ram is a treat to watch, especially in the emotional scenes. Newbie Vishwa Karna as the antagonist is a revelation and does a good job. Prakash Belawadi is a scream and deserves special mention.
100 has a pertinent message that deals with how social media has taken over most lives. This can be a good choice for a family movie outing for this weekend.
