Despite his recent successes, Rakshit Shetty struggles to find platforms for his new series Ekam. On June 17, Shetty announced on X (formerly Twitter) that he would release "Ekam" on his own platform due to a lack of interest from OTT services.

This news surprised both audiences and Kannada film industry insiders. Known for hits like 777 Charlie and Sapta Saagaradaache Ello, Shetty's situation raises questions about the industry's dynamics.

Shetty shared that Ekam, greenlit in early 2020, faced numerous setbacks, including the pandemic. After exploring all avenues and hitting roadblocks, he decided to release it independently, believing audiences deserve the chance to judge the content themselves.

Industry insiders reveal Shetty's experience is common. Director Anup Bhandari mentioned OTT platforms' confusion and reluctance due to previous Kannada film performances. Hemanth Rao, director of Sapta Saagaradaache Ello, emphasized the need for consistent quality content and local representation within OTT platforms.

The Kannada film industry, though smaller, has produced resonant content like Kantara, KGF, and 777 Charlie. However, better audience engagement and robust content creation are essential. Hemanth Rao stressed the industry's need to outperform others consistently to gain recognition and business from OTT platforms.
