Vidya Balan is gearing up for the release of her upcoming film titled "Neeyat." Set in Scotland, the movie revolves around a murder mystery where Vidya portrays the role of a detective.

The trailer of the film garnered attention for its resemblance to Daniel Craig's "Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery" (2022), and some people drew comparisons to Agatha Christie's novels due to the milieu and template of the story.

In response to these comparisons, Vidya Balan remains unfazed and sees them as a positive thing. She acknowledges that murder mysteries and whodunits often share certain familiar tropes, and what matters is how these elements are utilized and combined to create an engaging film. Vidya believes it's okay for films to look similar in the genre as long as they bring their own unique perspective.

Having expressed her joy about the success of "Gangubai Kathiawadi" in reviving the box office after the pandemic, Vidya hopes for a similar reaction with "Neeyat." She eagerly anticipates a theatrical release, emphasizing that the visually stunning film is best enjoyed on the big screen. After four years without a theatrical release since "Mission Mangal," Vidya is excited for audiences to experience "Neeyat" in cinemas.

As a trailblazer for women-led narratives in Bollywood, Vidya hopes for the film's success at the box office. While she acknowledges that the parameters for success differ between theaters and OTT platforms, she encourages people to support the film by watching it in theaters. Vidya humorously remarks that if their intentions are good, people will surely flock to the theaters.

Vidya Balan last played a detective in "Bobby Jasoos" (2014), but she highlights the contrasting worlds of "Bobby Jasoos" and "Neeyat." She appreciates the uniqueness of her character, Mira Rao, in "Neeyat" as a detective firmly grounded in reality. Unlike the glamorous spies often portrayed on screen, Mira is portrayed as quirky, socially awkward, and even geeky. Vidya finds it exciting to bring this unusual and unconventional detective to life in a classic murder mystery setting.

Neeyat is directed by Anu Menon, who last directed Vidya in Shakuntala Devi (2020). Apart from Vidya, the film also features Ram Kapoor, Rahul Bose, Neeraj Kabi, Amrita Puri, Shahana Goswami, Niki Walia, Dipannita Sharma, Shashank Arora and Prajakta Koli. It is slated for a release on July 7.

Overall, Vidya Balan is optimistic about "Neeyat" and hopes for its success at the box office, while also acknowledging the distinctive aspects of the film and her character.
