Saina Teaser: Parineeti Chopra as India’s star badminton player Saina Nehwal

Parineeti Chopra has shared the teaser of Saina, a biopic of ace badminton player Saina Nehwal. The film, which is directed by Amole Gupte, will hit the theatres on March 26.

Parineeti's portrayal of the badminton player is on point in the film's teaser. The clip starts with Saina saying that while parents prefer to educate their sons and get their daughters married by the age of 18, she picked up a racquet instead of utensils and made her own destiny. We then see a list of Saina's achievements on the screen.

Parineeti shared the film's teaser and wrote, "SAINA Badminton racquet and shuttlecock - TEASER TRAILER COMING OUT SOON!"

On March 3, Parineeti announced the release date of the film with a small video. She shared the clip and wrote, "SAINA! 26th March in cinemas."

The film certainly looks promising. While we can certainly expect that the film will come packed with Bollywood’s inevitable masala, lack of subtlety and quite a bit of nationalism that are a part of almost all sports biopics, Saina seems worth waiting for anyway.

Gupte has strong credentials due his 2011 award-winning film Stanley Ka Dabba and nobody in good conscience can deny Parineeti can turn in a solid performance when the role demands it. And this might be the most demanding role she has played in her film career.

Parineeti’s look is not remotely similar to Saina in the film, despite the mole on her cheek, but that’s all right. Actors playing public figures need to be compelling in the role, not necessarily accurate to the real person. Saina releases on March 26.
