Omerta starring Rajkummar Rao in the lead released today and has got good response from movie critics.
After watching 'Omerta' , I got a little thought provoking like feeling when I walked out of the theatre. There were some moments which were so crisp enough to keep me hooked to each and every scene of the movie. The plot begins with Omar(played by Rajkummar Rao) getting briefed by an elderly person for executing the kidnapping of westerners in Delhi and simultaneously getting imprisoned for it in Tihar Jail. At this point, you see the origins of the dreaded terrorist who was influenced by a local Maulana when he was still studying in college at London. The journey to the path of destruction begins from London to Pakistan when he enrolls in the training camp in Kashmir and gets trained by the ISI as well. Back in the present, Omar is released as a part of the prisoners who were released as a negotiation during the IC-814 hijack in 1999. He later starts funding the September 11 attacks with the help of wire transfer. The only thing which got me tortured was the Daniel Pearl kidnapping & murder which was much similar to the 2007 movie "A Mighty Heart" starring Angelina Jolie, which was based on the same incident. That scene was covered like if I'm watching Jolie's movie in 5 minutes. Trust me, that scene is not for the faint-hearted ones.
Rajkummar Rao easily blends into the role of Omar Saeed Sheikh, the way he influences a fellow inmate in Tihar reminds you of the similar scene in 'Shahid' directed by Hansal Mehta himself. The screenplay seemed more like watching its documentary on Discovery Channel when there are real-life footage of the terrorist activities were projected. A scene from Shahid (2013) Hindi Movie The director Hansal Mehta has done a great job in describing the various terror activities occurring in the movie ranging from the deceitful kidnapping of westerners in 1994, dreadful IC-814 hijack, funding America's nightmare:9/11, slaughtering Daniel Pearl in Karachi and finally the hoax calls during the 3-day siege in Mumbai. This movie is must watch for those who are bored of watching commercial movies. Reviewed By: Rohan Muralidhar
