Manto is a biopic about a famous artist of the same name during the pre-independence era who dared to become bold in writing.
Some years ago, there was a painter called MF Hussain who created a stir with his controversial painting of a goddess which official led him to exile out of India. Manto is somewhat similar to that, which is directorial of the legendary actress Nandita Das.
The plot of the film is set during the Independence era when India achieved Independence and also suffered the brunt because of the partition which gave birth to Pakistan. One artist never shies away in writing about women during those times and that is Manto (Nawazzuddin Siddiqui) who never gets affected by the peers who have their hate against the artist.
The film boasts about a huge star cast which were entertaining the intellectual audience with actors like Rishi Kapoor, Paresh Rawal, and Ila Arun. Rajshri Deshpande, who shared screen space with Nawaz in Netflix's Sacred Games is also onboard in this film. Tahir Raj Bhasin, who won accolades for his role of a sex racket boss in Mardaani is also part of this masterpiece film which was well appreciated at the Cannes later this year.

The film is slated to release on 21st September 2018, so looks like Nawaz will hit the bullseye with this film.
