Story/Premise

Manikaarnika, Queen of Jhansi, has to protect her kingdom from evil British Empire. will she succeed in doing so ? What kind of an example will she set for later generations of reveloutionaries ? forms the rest of plot.

Review 

History remembers the Victors! Rani laxmibai's saga is one such unique example which breaks the above stereotypes. She may have lost the Onfield Battle to Britishers , but she definitely won the larger than life war of Patriotism, Nationalism and Revolution. 

At its core, story and screenplay of "Manikarnika" also tries to capture the same essence, but Poorly written dialogues make it very difficult to get into that Vibe. At some places , The actors body language conveyed a different level of energy, but the intensity of dialogues failed to match it. Example, 

"laxmibai ne uske ghode ki Lagaam esse katti, jaise Manje se Patang. Aur uss afsaar ka chehra esse latka, jaise aam k ped se aam"

(mtlb, kuch bhi comparison ?) This was a dialogue said by Danny denzopa's character describing the manikarnika's war Glory (Dubbing movies k dialogue isse better hote hai). Narration done by Amitabh Bachchan only comes for a minute in the beginning and in the end. And remaining narrations were given by characters themselves that made the dialogues too lagging and overexplanatory !

Coming to performances, Kangana is throughout the movie and the movie is Kangana, initial young portrayal of Manikarnika is bit hard to digest but later when the character matures , Kangana Steals the show! Remaining characters are supporting , they just come and go. The villains in the movie, Hugh Rose ( Richard keep )and all other britishers and Sadashivrao (Zeeshan Ayyub) were underplayed, I felt. No one takes a special Attention!

Music and BGM are plus points for the movie and aptly enhances the emotions in scenes.

VFX, weren't that great and keep deteriorating on Big Screen. In climax there is a Fire VFX, that just reminds you the quality of VFX if u  chose to ignore them earlier.

Verdict: 

It's a total Kangana Ranaut show, u'll love it as much as you admire her. The movies theme is Patriotism and her performance does justice to it. Just keep a blind eye to other technical aspects and u'll enjoy the patriotism Vibe.

FYI Director credits, in movie end credits, Kangana's name precedes Krish. Apt I believe, Being a ardent follower of Krish's movies in south, I couldn't find his mark of storytelling in the movie at any point.
