Recently, Bollywood has cracked a genre which is set up in a small town or in a middle-class setup where either the protagonist is facing a tabooed issue or he/she is spreading awareness regarding it.
Ayushmann Khurrana as mastering this genre through films like Vicky Donor, Shubh Mangal Savdhaan and Badhai Ho.
After a stream of flops, Sonakshi Sinha is trying her hands in this genre through Khandaani Shafakhana, where you can see Sonakshi playing a pharmacist Baby Bedi, who sells medicines to heal sexually transmitted diseases and aid sexual performance. Baby Bedi, inherits the family business, and her first reaction is to sell the store.
Baby eventually takes the clinic and must get used to patients demands and problems. As sex is the tabooed topic in our country which ironically is the most populated country, Baby has to understand the code-words too such as ‘viggal-viggal’ which is a code-word for sperm.
To spread awareness about sex and to spread sex-education, Baby takes help of Badshah who is a famous singer and rapper in reel life too for her awareness campaign.
Directed by Shilpi Dasgupta and written by Gautam Mehra, the movie is set in Chandigarh. The cast includes Fukrey actor Varun Sharma, Annu Kapoor, Nadira Babbar, Kulbhushan Kharbanda and Priyansh Jora. Khandaani Shafakhana is aiming for a July 26 release.
