Kangana Ranaut’s highly anticipated film Emergency is slated to hit theaters on January 17, 2025. The announcement comes a month after the movie received its censor certificate from the CBFC. Initially scheduled for a September 6 release, the film faced delays due to certification and other challenges.
Written, directed, and co-produced by Ranaut, Emergency portrays her as former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and delves into the tumultuous Emergency period of 1975-1977. Kangana announced the new release date on Instagram, calling the film an "epic saga of the nation's most powerful woman."

Actor Shreyas Talpade, who plays Atal Bihari Vajpayee, expressed relief after the CBFC approved the film with a ‘UA’ certification, albeit with three recommended cuts and factual clarifications.
The film has been mired in controversy for its portrayal of historical events, including objections from Sikh groups regarding specific scenes. Despite challenges, Emergency promises to offer a gripping narrative of a pivotal period in India’s history.
The ensemble cast includes Shreyas Talpade, Milind Soman, Anupam Kher, Vishak Nair, and the late Satish Kaushik, with a screenplay by Ritesh Shah. Fans are eagerly awaiting its cinematic debut.
