Kalank teaser out: A Tale of Eternal love
Published On: 12 March 2019 | Bollywood | By: Saurabh S Nair
Set in 1945, in pre-independence era, with an ensemble cast of Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditya Roy Kapur, Madhuri Dixit, and Sanjay Dutt.
The teaser has all the ingredients of a mainstream Bollywood blockbuster, including huge sets, love and conflict, vintage look due to the story set in the 1940s, and the ensemble cast.
Bollywood was always for its multi-starrer cast in the films. It was a trend in earlier to have various stars cast in one single film.
But for a few years, the trend has become a bygone due to the emergence of independent and content-driven films which doesn’t bother about its star cast.
After a long time, a film with this long gone trend has made a comeback.
The teaser begins with the introduction of female and male characters appearing from the backdrop.
Varun Dhawan’s voiceover tells, ‘Some relationships are like debts, you don’t fulfill them, you repay them’.
This gives an idea of the story, that it is all about the relationship which all Dharma production movies are about.
As we discussed earlier in our poster decode, Madhuri’s character is a courtesan and it looks like Sanjay’s and Madhuri’s character have some love connection. They too appear together in one of the brief sequences in the teaser.
In one of the sequence, we get a glimpse of Aditya and Alia’s character getting married and includes the voice over of Alia saying, ‘if someone else’s failure feels like a victory to us, then we are the greatest failures in the world’.
And then we see blood-stained Varun. From the teaser, it’s known that Varun and Alia’s character is in love but circumstances force her to marry Aditya’s character. But Sonakshi’s character is Aditya’s life partner.
This conflict of relationship in 'Kalank' is the crux of the film.
The teaser ends with Alia and Varun’s character coming together with the backdrop of Ravan’s cremation, which symbolizes the end of all the sin and bonding of love.
The film is directed by Abhishek Varman, and it is produced by Karan Johar, Sajid Nadiadwala, Hiroo Yash Johar, and Apoorva Mehta.
‘Kalank’ is all set to release on 17th April 2019.
