End of a Legacy: Iconic RK Studios is sold to Godrej properties.
The film studio was established in 1948 by and named after the legendary filmmaker ‘Showman’ Raj Kapoor which is headquartered in Chembur, Mumbai.
R.K films are the most iconic film studios in India. It has produced some of the timeless classics of Hindi Cinema such as Shri 420, Bobby, Mera Naam Joker, and Satyam Shivam Sundaram.
The studio is now acquired by Godrej properties, the 2.2-acre site will offer approximately 33,000 sq. meters of the saleable area comprising residential apartments of various configurations as well as luxury retail space.
The studio met with a massive fire accident on September 2017 leaving a portion of the studio gutted.
“This property in Chembur has been of tremendous significance to my family over the many decades that RK Studios operated from there. We are excited to have chosen Godrej Properties to script a new chapter for this location and build upon its rich history,” said Randhir Kapoor, the eldest son of Raj Kapoor.
The property represents prime real estate, with close proximity to hospitals, retail malls, and residential and commercial space.

There are many iconic film studios which are either shut down or sold in the past such as Gemini Studios, Bombay Talkies, and Kamalistan studio.
This can be concluded at the end of a legacy, a legacy of films shot in a film studio but ‘The Show Must Go On’.
