Deepika Padukone as Malti a character inspired by Delhi-based acid attack victim and activist Laxmi Agarwal. The film also stars Vikrant Massey.

After Padmavat, Deepika Padukone is back after 2 years with Meghna Gulzar's film Chhapaak. Makers have released the trailer of the film. The film talks about an acid attack survivor and her journey to build herself again after the traumatic incident.

The film sees Deepika play Malti, a character inspired by Delhi-based acid attack victim and activist Laxmi Agarwal. The film also stars Vikrant Massey.

The trailer has a realistic tone and aesthetic stays true towards reality. The trailer begins with Malti attacked and we only see her falling to the ground and later, getting water splashed over her in the hospital as she screams in pain. The scream and Deepika's expressions will create a lump your throat, it will surely leave you with goosebumps and in overwhelming anger.

Later we see Malti being an activist and trying to help other acid attack survivors.

Vikrant Massey also joins in her journey.  A refreshing take on the world’s idea that a victim of a horrific crime has to be in a constant state of deep sadness all their lives is shown when Vikrant's character tells her there is still a long way to go and how will it work if she stayed this happy. She says, “Ab khush hu toh kya karu (What can I do if I am happy).”

Chhapaak is directed by Meghna Gulzar of Raazi and Talwar fame.

The trailer is released on the occasion of World Human Rights Day. Chhapaak will release on next year January 10, 2020.
