Bunty Aur Babli 2: Rani Mukherji and Saif Ali Khan starrer release date postponed

Rani Mukerji, Saif Ali Khan, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Sharvari-starrer Bunty Aur Babli 2’s release date has been pushed due to a rise in the number of novel coronavirus cases across the country. In what is being dubbed the second wave, new restrictions and lockdowns are being implemented in certain parts of the country, most notably in Maharashtra. Bunty Aur Babli 2 producer Aditya Chopra has decided to postpone the release of the film. The film was gearing up to release on April 23. Yash Raj Films is yet to announce the new release date.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter to reveal the big news. He wrote, “#BreakingNews: #BuntyAurBabli2 - which was scheduled to release in *cinemas* on 23 April 2021 - has been postponed... #YRF will announce the new release date later. #SaifAliKhan, #RaniMukerji, #SiddhantChaturvedi #Sharvari (sic)." In a second tweet, he added, "Due to the spike in #Covid19 cases and the impact on the entertainment industry in #India, #YRF has taken the call to push the release of #BuntyAurBabli2 ahead (sic)."

This news comes a couple of days after the makers of Rana Daggubati-starrer Haathi Mere Saathi decided to postpone the release of the Hindi version of the film. They too cited a rising number of coronavirus cases as a reason behind the decision. Eros International, the production house of the film, however, confirmed that the Tamil and Telugu versions, Kaadan and Aranya respectively, will release in theatres on March 26, as per plan.

In September 2020, Saif Ali Khan, Rani Mukerji, Siddhant Chaturvedi and debutante Sharvari wrapped up the shoot for Bunty Aur Babli 2. Sharing the news, Siddhant Chaturvedi had written on Instagram, “Wrapped up #BuntyAurBabli2 with one last song. Grateful that the entire team made sure all safety measures were thoroughly implemented. #SaifAliKhan #RaniMukerji @sharvari @varun.v.sharma @buntyaurbabli2 @yrf (sic).”

Bunty Aur Babli 2, directed by Varun Sharma, is the sequel to the 2005 blockbuster, Bunty Aur Babli. The 2005 film starred Abhishek Bachchan and Rani Mukerji in the lead roles, along with Amitabh Bachchan in a pivotal role. The film also had a special number, Kajra Re, by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
