Actor Annu Kapoor has stirred controversy by accusing the creators of Chak De! India of intentionally altering the protagonist's background from Hindu to Muslim. The veteran actor voiced his concerns about the 2007 film, starring Shah Rukh Khan, alleging that it promotes a communal agenda.

Kapoor highlighted that the character of Kabir Khan, portrayed by Shah Rukh, was inspired by real-life coach Mir Ranjan Negi but was fictionalized in the film. He remarked, "The main character in Chak De! India is based on a famous coach, Negi Saab. However, in India, they want to portray a Muslim as a good character while making fun of a Pandit (Hindu priest). This has been a recurring theme, using the concept of Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb (Hindu-Muslim unity) to label it."

This statement comes just a day after Kapoor's controversial remarks about his 7 Khoon Maaf co-star Priyanka Chopra, where he claimed she hesitated to kiss him on screen due to his non-mainstream hero status.

Annu Kapoor is well-known for his roles in films like Mandi, Utsav, Mr. India, Ghayal, Hum, Aitraaz, and 7 Khoon Maaf. He also hosts a radio show titled Suhaana Safar With Annu Kapoor.

Released in 2007, Chak De! India is a sports drama that follows Shah Rukh Khan's character, Kabir Khan, a former Indian hockey player accused of betraying his country after a significant loss to Pakistan. In a quest to restore his reputation, he becomes the coach of the Indian women's hockey team, which faces numerous challenges and skepticism.

The film featured a cast of newcomers alongside Shah Rukh as the hockey players and was both critically acclaimed and commercially successful, directed by Shimit Amin.
