Amitabh Bachchan turned 81 on October 11, 2023. While the actor's surprise appearance outside his Mumbai residence, Jalsa, left fans ecstatic, some also noticed his daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and granddaughters Aaradhya and Navya in the background.
Amitabh Bachchan's evolving hairstyle over the years is indeed a reflection of his changing roles and persona in the Indian film industry.
In Late 1960s,in his debut film, Amitabh Bachchan had a messy look with hair that was disheveled and featured a fringe on the side and back. This look suited his character as a young, idealist poet in the film.
In "Anand," (1971) one of his early breakout roles, Bachchan's hairstyle began to evolve. He sported silky, straight, sideswept hair with a side parting, which marked the beginning of the hairstyle that would become his trademark in later films.
The Iconic Bachchan Cut (Mid-1970s to 1980s) became synonymous with his "angry, young man" persona and stayed in place for over a decade. It featured thick wavy locks in a tight coiffure with a middle parting and sideburns that covered the ears. This iconic hairstyle was seen in many of his hit films from the mid-1970s, including "Deewar," "Don," and "Sholay."
After a career slump in the 1990s, Amitabh Bachchan reinvented his hairstyle along with his persona when he hosted the TV show "Kaun Banega Crorepati" in 2000. He adopted a slick, middle-aged avatar with straight, jet-black hair and a white goatee. This new look represented a departure from his earlier "angry young man" image.
In his 80s, Amitabh Bachchan now sports a salt-and-pepper hairdo that is shorter and sparser than his earlier hairstyles. This look is more in line with his age, and he complements it with dark, horn-rimmed glasses and colorful beanies. It's a reflection of how gracefully he has aged and evolved his style over the years.
Amitabh Bachchan's ever-evolving hairstyles have mirrored his versatility as an actor and his ability to adapt to different roles and eras in the Indian film industry. He has certainly remained a style icon for generations and continues to be a celebrated figure in Indian cinema.
