5 Weddings Movie Review: The director wanted to bring an east meets west fusion in this but she fails terribly in it. Check out our review right here...

Indian Weddings are considered to be quite like the carnivals in Disneyland which brings many people from different parts of the world to witness the beautiful extravaganza. This is only shown in Bollywood films, not in real-life which most of the foreigners have been stereotyping about it when it comes to Indian Wedding in Namrata Singh Gujral's film 5 Weddings.

Shania Dhaliwal (Nargis Fakhri), a journalist for a magazine based in Los Angeles, United States lands up in a lucrative opportunity for writing an article on Indian Weddings which shocks her because she is half-Indian and a half-American. The real reason is the mystery of her Indian father who left her mother abruptly. She heads to Delhi where a charismatic police officer Harbhajan Singh (Rajkummar Rao) is tasked to protect her.

Then begins the wild madcap journey of every Punjabi wedding with various rituals ranging from Sangeet, Mehndi, Reception and Bidaai, courtesy of Bollywood who has made this mandatory in every Indian family. But what changes her life is the dark side of hijras who enter the wedding and bless the couple, that intrigues Shania to make a story on them as well.

This formula came in the late-90s and early 2000s when films like Bend It Like Beckham, Monsoon Wedding, The Namesake and Bride & Prejudice was popular among both the west audience and the Indian Audience. The story is cool but it is still playing the same old stereotypes which have been plaguing most of us even now.

Rajkummar Rao has ditched our expectations in this flawed flick and we were expecting something more after we watched his acting capabilities in films like Bareilly Ki Barfi, Trapped and much recently Stree. Nargis acts naturally in most of the scenes and that is evident as she has a western approach in everything. The supporting cast Bo Derek and Candy Clark have also worked hard in putting up a good show in the film.

Some of the nucleya's original compositions have been used in this film which doesn't save the film from being uplifted. Namrata Singh Gujral started working on the script back in the 90s and she was diagnosed with cancer while beginning the shoot.

Overall, if you guys are looking for some free food in this over-the-top wedding, never dare to gatecrash as it will give you virtual diarrhea for the next few days.
