The fashion industry mourns death of a legend, Karl Lagerfeld

The entire fashion industry mourned, as Chanel announced the death of legend Karl Lagerfeld. Creative director of Chanel, passed away in Paris, where he resided this tuesday. Many celebrities and influential people shared their grief on social media platforms like Instagram. Louis Vuitton CEO Michael Burke shared: “Karl adopted me when I was in need of a friend in Rome! We became partners in crime, and wrote history on the Great Wall of China. Aim high, shoot for the stars. You will always be our guiding light.” Among others were model sisters, Gigi and Bella Hadid who shared their remorse.

The designer was absent last month in Paris Fashion Week which was attributed to fatigue. When the time came for his final bow, he was notably missing and had asked Virginie Viard to step in for him. Virginie Viard was his longtime collaborator for over 30 years, and the director of Chanel's Fashion Creation Studio.

Chanel announced today that Viard will take over as the new creative director of the brand, "so that the legacy of Gabrielle Chanel and Karl Lagerfeld can live on". Viard started as an intern in Chanel and climbed her way up.

Even though there were rumours about his retirement, he never retired. Today, even though he is not among us. He will live forever, through his legacy and creations and continue to inspire youngsters to push the boundaries.
