The 93rd Academy Awards paid tribute to actor Irrfan Khan and Oscar-winning costume designer Bhanu Athaiya. The two Indian personalities featured in the Academy's In Memorium segment during its ceremony. They were honoured along with artists such as Chadwick Boseman, Cicely Tyson, Sean Connery, Diana Rigg and Helen McCrory among others.
Irrfan earned recognition globally with his Hollywood films such as Life of Pi, Jurassic World, Inferno etc. Bhanu Athaiya was the first Indian to win an Academy Award for Best Costume Design for Gandhi in 1982.
Countless fans are still devastated over the deaths of Rishi Kapoor, Soumitra Chatterjee and Sushant Singh Rajput. While the artists may be gone, they remain in our memories and their contribution to the cinematic world is recognised. This year, the Oscars honoured these actors in its A Look Back segment.
Oscars 2021 are being in Los Angeles at multiple locations: Dolby Theatre, where it has been traditionally hosted, and Union Station. The award ceremony was earlier scheduled for February, but the event was delayed by two months due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.
