Gulebakavali is a Tamil action comedy film, written and directed by Kalyaan S and produced by KJR Studios. Prabhu Deva and Hansika Motwani are playing the lead pair in this movie with veteran actress Revathi playing a supporting role. Gulebakavali begins from where the 1955 film of the same name ended. Kalyaan has devised a special flashback sequence to connect the two films. The Plot: Nambi (Mansoor Ali Khan) is a don who is a head of an antique idol smuggling gang. Badri played by Prabhu Deva is his right hand. Viji (Haniska Motwani) is into trapping rich man and snatching money from them. Masha played by Revathy is an expert car thief. Badri, Viji and Munish (Ramdoss) are assigned a task to fetch the treasure from a village named Gulaebaghavali by Nambi. Masha also joins them en-route. The rest of the movie is about how they go through this roller coaster ride and decide to cheat Nambi to share the treasure between themselves.

Gulaebaghavali is encompassing when it comes to reactions — not the reaction of characters on screen, our reactions. It generates an entire gamut of moments. There is the genuine laugh-worthy moments, absolute cringe-worthy ones, moments where you laugh and judge yourself a second later and moments where you judge other people for laughing. Gulaebaghavali is not one of those films you could easily write off, by say, calling it a mindless entertainer. Although cut from the same cloth as last year’s terrific adventure-based horror comedy Maragatha Naanayam, this Prabhudheva-starrer falls short of being a worthy competitor. It is undoubtedly a cut above most other films in a similar space and enjoyable too — but in parts. While one might pick issues with the film, especially when the spotlight falls on the romance portion, it still has moments which truly work and make us cheer. Read full review
