Sarjun's Airaa, starring Nayanthara in the lead role, has a butterfly playing an important role throughout. In addition, the film is a case study on butterfly effect, which means a small, harmless incident can turn into something really big. It has all the banalities of a horror film - there is a bungalow in a place outside the town (Pollachi), there is a spirit inside the house with a motive, there is a flashback portion explaining the past of the spirit. The title credits of Airaa plays over an animated sequence that shows the domino effect caused by a Rube Goldbergian contraption. And the title itself contains butterflies. These are the clues that director Sarjun offers us, right at the beginning of his film, to the mystery that is at the centre of his film’s narrative. Read full review

Airaa is a horror flick; one of the most exploited genres in the history of Tamil cinema. Being a horror film, it follows a certain template - an act of revenge, proper backstory, jump scares and a pulsating background score. Airaa has plenty of it, but it is bogged down by a ridiculous pre-climax that will leave you puzzled. Read full review

Airaa is a supernatural horror film, what that means is that the ghost element in this world is real. The movie has some good horror moments but the backstory kills the impact of the movie and climax makes it even more sloppy. The movie is only enjoyable for its Horror Thrills, Music and other entertainment ingredients. Read full review
