Bio:
Suriya (born Saravanan Sivakumar on 23 July 1975) is an Indian actor and film producer who primarily works in Tamil cinema. Widely regarded as one of the leading actors of his generation, he is among the highest-paid actors in the Tamil film industry and has received numerous accolades, including two National Film Awards, several Filmfare Awards South, and multiple Tamil Nadu State Film Awards. He has also featured multiple times in Forbes India’s Celebrity 100 list.
Suriya made his acting debut with Nerukku Ner (1997) and gained recognition with Nandhaa (2001). He achieved major commercial success with Kaakha Kaakha (2003) and earned critical acclaim for performances in Pithamagan (2003) and Perazhagan (2004). The psychological thriller Ghajini (2005) further elevated his stardom.
He received widespread acclaim for portraying dual roles in Vaaranam Aayiram (2008) and strengthened his action-hero image with Ayan (2009) and the Singam film series. His filmography also includes science fiction successes such as 7 Aum Arivu and 24, as well as critically acclaimed works like Soorarai Pottru (2020), for which he won the National Film Award for Best Actor, and Jai Bhim (2021).
He is the elder son of actor Sivakumar and the brother of actor Karthi. In 2006, he married actress Jyothika. The same year, he founded the Agaram Foundation, a philanthropic initiative focused on education. In 2013, he established the production company 2D Entertainment and has since produced several films under its banner.
