Thamma unfolds like a wild yet whimsical ride through myth and modernity. The story follows Alok Goyal (Ayushmann Khurrana), a quirky TV reporter whose trekking trip turns into a life-altering adventure when a mysterious woman named Tadaka (Rashmika Mandanna) rescues him from a deadly bear attack. What begins as a charming encounter soon spirals into a clash between worlds — Tadaka’s secretive tribe, led by the menacing Yakshasan (Nawazuddin Siddiqui), and Alok’s very human vulnerability. When Tadaka defies her clan for love, their forbidden bond ignites a chain of events that test courage, faith, and the limits of destiny.

Director Aditya Sarpotdar, fresh off Munjya, once again proves his mastery at mixing fear and fun without losing the emotional core. The narrative borrows from Indian folklore yet feels fresh thanks to witty writing, well-timed humour, and moments of genuine heart. The film shines brightest in its first half, especially the dinner sequence between Tadaka and Alok’s family, while the pre-climax “Betal vs Bhediya” showdown is pure cinematic spectacle. The pace dips slightly in the second half, but the energy and visual grandeur keep the experience engaging.

Adding to the festive buzz, Moviekoop hosted an exclusive Thamma Free Movie Ticket Contest as part of its ongoing effort to make moviegoing more affordable and fun for fans. The platform regularly runs contests for upcoming films to help reduce ticket costs for movie lovers. This time, a total of eight winners were announced 🏆 — with ₹1000 for the 1st place, ₹500 for the 2nd, ₹250 for the 3rd, and ₹150 for the 4th. Ayushmann Khurrana anchors the film with effortless charm, gliding between comedy, romance, and moments of dread. Rashmika Mandanna is a revelation, balancing grace and ferocity with ease, while Nawazuddin Siddiqui chews up his scenes with eccentric brilliance. Paresh Rawal brings warmth and comic timing that make the family portions relatable and hilarious. Cameos by Varun Dhawan as Bhediya and Aneet Padda’s introduction as Shakti Shalini add to the growing Maddock universe in exciting ways.

Technically, Thamma looks and sounds grand. Sachin–Jigar’s music, especially tracks like Poison Baby and Tum Mere Na Huye, elevate the narrative, while the background score electrifies every supernatural beat. The VFX work by DNEG is slick and convincing, particularly in the creature and mystical scenes, and the cinematography captures the eerie charm of its folklore-inspired world beautifully.

While the film could have used tighter editing and a slightly stronger finale, Thamma succeeds as an entertainer that blends chills, laughs, and emotions in equal measure. It’s spooky yet sweet, thrilling yet tender — a perfect festive mix that reaffirms Maddock Films’ dominance in India’s expanding horror-comedy universe.

Verdict:

Thamma is a paisa vasool Diwali treat — a supernatural romance that makes you laugh, gasp, and care, all at once. Watch it for Ayushmann and Rashmika’s sparkling chemistry, the quirky humour, and that irresistibly desi blend of love and legend.
