Patriot Movie Review: ⭐⭐⭐⭐★ | Patriot is an ambitious, idea-driven thriller that explores surveillance and power with strong performances from Mammootty and Mohanlal. However, its slow pacing and limited emotional connect make it more appealing to niche audiences than mainstream viewers.

Storyline: In a surveillance-driven dystopia, senior official Daniel James (Mammootty) confronts the implications of a spyware system tracking civilians, while retired soldier Rahim Naik (Mohanlal) emerges from the shadows, entangling lives across a web of power, loyalty, and control.

Patriot Movie Review: Mahesh Narayanan’s Patriot brings together two legends - Mammootty and Mohanlal, in a film that prioritises ideas over spectacle. Built around the concept of invasive surveillance through a system called Periscope, the film explores how state-controlled technology can blur ethical boundaries and disrupt ordinary lives. It’s an ambitious premise, layered with Orwellian undertones and political commentary.

The narrative unfolds patiently, investing time in world-building and character arcs. Mammootty’s Daniel James anchors the first half with a measured, compelling performance. His transition into a more public-facing persona adds an interesting dimension, while also sustaining intrigue around the larger conspiracy.

Mohanlal’s presence, though delayed, is impactful. As Rahim Naik, he brings gravitas and intensity, with his character looming over the narrative even before physically appearing. When he finally does, the film gains momentum, particularly in its action and confrontation sequences.

The supporting cast further strengthens the film. Fahadh Faasil delivers a layered performance, while Kunchacko Boban adds emotional depth. Their interactions, laced with philosophy and subtle tension, elevate the narrative, even when it leans into complex, dialogue-heavy territory.

Technically, Patriot is impressive. Manush Nandan’s cinematography enhances the film’s visual tone, and Sushin Shyam’s background score adds weight to key moments. However, the screenplay occasionally loses cohesion, especially towards the end, where the narrative feels slightly cluttered.

Despite its strengths, the film’s biggest limitation is its emotional distance. While the central friendship and relationships are well-written, they don’t always translate into a strong emotional pull for the audience. The film demands patience and engagement, making it more appealing to cinephiles than mainstream viewers expecting a gripping thriller.

Verdict: Patriot is a thoughtfully crafted, performance-driven film that impresses with its ambition and execution, but its lack of emotional immediacy and uneven pacing hold it back from being truly compelling.
