Parasakthi Movie Review: A thunderous, imperfect chronicle of resistance

Set against the anti-Hindi imposition protests of the late 1950s and ’60s, Parasakthi dramatizes a defining political movement in Tamil Nadu through the story of two brothers drawn into the heart of student-led resistance.
Sudha Kongara transforms history into a stirring, emotionally charged spectacle that balances education with cinematic flair. Despite an overlong runtime and moments of excess, the film largely stays focused, clearly articulating the intent, anger, and urgency behind the movement.
Sivakarthikeyan delivers a controlled, confident performance as Chezhiyan, the face of the protest, while Atharvaa shines as his fiery younger brother Chinnadurai, often stealing scenes with sheer presence. The film resists reducing its politics to mere provocation, framing the struggle as one for identity and freedom rather than language alone.
GV Prakash Kumar’s background score heightens the film’s intensity, though the songs occasionally disrupt momentum. Ravi K Chandran’s rich cinematography captures the period effectively, while some censor cuts and stretched romantic portions slightly dilute the impact.
Packed with characters, cameos, and intersecting arcs, Parasakthi is ambitious and unapologetically loud. Not flawless, but powerful in intent and emotion, it stands as a rousing, politically charged drama that wears its convictions proudly.
